Design

The bench follows mid-century thinking: a flat seat, straightforward supports and nothing extra. At 14 inches deep it tucks neatly against a bed frame or along a wall, and the larger sizes step up to an 18-inch seat height for a slightly taller mattress. Because each one is cut from raw boards, knots and edge details differ from bench to bench.

Materials and Care

Artisans build every bench by hand from selected solid wood once the order is placed. Indoor finishes use a plant-based oil that brings out the grain; the outdoor water seal dries to a matte look rather than a sheen, so choose carefully at checkout. Natural wood varies in grain and tone. Dust with a soft cloth and re-oil occasionally.

Which width should I choose for my bed?
Many people pick a bench a little narrower than the mattress so the bed frame frames it. For a queen, the 55 or 59 inch options are common; for a king, look at 69 to 83 inches.

Can it be used on a porch?
Yes. Order the outdoor water-seal finish for exterior use. It has a matte appearance instead of the soft sheen of the indoor finishes.

How long does delivery take?
Each piece is made to order. Cutting and carving take 7-10 days, you approve photos of your piece, finishing takes about 7 more days, and delivery adds 3-7 business days, so most orders arrive in about 3-4 weeks.

Will every piece look exactly like the photos?
The shape, size and finish match your selection, but solid wood has natural variations in grain, knots and tone, so no two pieces are identical. You see photos of your own piece before it is finished.

You have 30 days from delivery to return any unworn, unwashed item with tags attached. Change-of-mind returns are at your postage; damaged, wrong or lost orders are replaced or refunded in full and we cover the postage. No restocking fees.

Hang suits and sport coats on a wide wooden hanger and let them rest a day between wears. Brush, don't wash; dry clean only when actually dirty — two or three times a year is plenty. Steam out creases. Hems, sleeves and waists are done in our shop at 6 N Centre St; add your inseam in the order notes and we'll hem trousers before they ship. Hemmed trousers are altered to your order, so they can't be returned for change of mind or wrong size.
